General Information

Advanced Techniques in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery 2012 is a comprehensive three day (optional 4th day) continuing medical education program in rhinology and sinus surgery for practicing otolaryngologists with exposure to endoscopic sinus surgery. This course features didactic instruction from expert national and international faculty, individual hands-on cadaver lab dissection with powered instrumentation and live surgery. Offered over the President's Day weekend, participants will immerse themselves in focused rhinology training with ample opportunity to rejuvenate the mind and body through world class spa facilities, hiking the beautiful Sonoran terrain, golf, tennis, dining and shopping. Spouses and significant others are invited to join participants and faculty members for "Cowboys and Cocktails", a pool party on Saturday, February 18th for the whole family.


Course Description

Participants will enjoy a dynamic program with presentations on medical and surgical treatment of difficult chronic rhinosinusitis, surgical complications including cerebrospinal fluid leak, medico-legal issues in endoscopic sinus surgery, image guided surgery, orbital and optic nerve decompression/thyroid orbitopathy surgery, allergic fungal sinusitis, sinus balloon catheter applications, endoscopic approach to the sphenoid and sella, particular attention to primary and revision frontal sinus surgery, the role of biofilms in rhinology, coding and billing pearls, in-office CT scanners, practice development strategies including website and marketing tips, and new instruments and technology applications for rhinology. Participants will also observe live surgery by Dr. Ryan Rehl and perform cadaver dissection with standard and powered instrumentation.


Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss new technology and instruments that are available to improve treatment of sinus disease.

  2. Apply new dissection techniques to improve results in difficult endoscopic sinus surgery cases.

  3. Describe management options in refractory sinus patients.


Course Special FeatureXoran xCAT

Intra-dissection CT scanning

During and after the cadaver dissection course, attendees will be able to scan their specimen and study the anatomic changes they've created. All specimens will be scanned prior to dissection and image guidance systems will be available for use during dissection.


Accreditation & CME Information

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Banner Health and the Sinus Care Foundation.Banner Health is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Banner health designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Registration Information

Registration fees are $1200 for lecture/live surgery/lab (February 16-19) or $900 for lecture/live surgery only (February 16-18). Reduced registration fees for residents are $900 for lecture/live surgery/lab and $500 for lecture/live surgery only.  A letter from the program director is required at the time of registration.  The registration fee includes course dvd, transportation to the live surgery and dissection, all fees associated with the dissection (when registered for the dissection), and meals (breakfast, lunch, breaks and Friday dinner symposium).

Cancellation Information

California Sinus Centers reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement by the institution, we will refund registration fees, but are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies, or hotels. We reserve the right to select students based on various criteria.

If a participant must cancel his/her course registration, he or she may receive a refund if written notification is sent by December 16, 2011. Refunds will not be processed after this date.
