General Information

Advanced Techniques in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery 2009 is a comprehensive three or 4 day continuing medical education program (up to 14 AMA PRA Category 1 credits) in Rhinology/Sinus Surgery for practicing otolaryngologists with exposure to Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.  This course features didactic instruction, individual hands-on cadaver lab dissection and live surgery with expert national and international faculty.  Offered over the President’s Day long weekend and Valentine’s Day, participants will immerse themselves in focused rhinology training followed by an evening celebration in chic downtown San Francisco and ample time to enjoy the Bay Area attractions.


Course Description

Participants will enjoy a dynamic program with presentations on medical and surgical treatment of difficult chronic rhinosinusitis, surgical complications including cerebrospinal fluid leak, medico-legal issues in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, image guided surgery, orbital and optic nerve decompression/thyroid orbitopathy surgery, allergic fungal sinusitis, balloon sinuplasty, endoscopic approach to the sphenoid and sella, particular attention to primary and revision frontal sinus surgery, the role of biofilms in rhinology, coding and billing pearls, in-office CT scanners, practice development strategies including website and marketing tips, and new instruments and technology applications for rhinology. Participants will also perform cadaver dissection with standard and powered instrumentation, and observe live surgery.

Intra-dissection CT scanning!!

During and after the cadaver dissection course, attendees will be able to scan their specimen and study the anatomic changes they've created.  All specimens will be scanned prior to dissection and image guidance systems will be available for use during dissection.

Air Travel - Suggested airports: San Jose International (SJC) or San Francisco International (SFO)

From the North (SFO)

  • Depart San Francisco International Airport and go south on Highway 101 towards Palo Alto and San José
  • Take the University Avenue exit to Palo Alto and stay in the middle lane
  • Turn left on University Avenue and take the first right onto Woodland Avenue
  • Make an immediate right into the University Circle office complex
  • The Hotel is straight ahead

From the South (SJC)

  • Depart San José International Airport, follow the signs to Highway 101 North
  • Travel on Highway 101 North for approximately 14 miles (22.5 kilometers)
  • Exit at University Avenue and follow the signs toward Palo Alto/University Avenue
  • Continue on University Avenue and take the first right onto Woodland Avenue after the overpass
  • Turn right into Hotel Entrance

From the East Bay (OAK)

  • Departing the airport, travel east on Hegenberger Road to Highway 880 south
  • Follow Highway 880 south towards San José for approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) to Highway 92 west
  • Travel west on Highway 92 across the San Mateo Bridge to Highway 101 south
  • Proceed south on Highway 101 for 10 miles (16 kilometers) to University Avenue exit
  • Turn left onto University and take first right onto Woodland
  • Turn right into Hotel entrance

Registration Information

The course Fee is $1,200 from Thursday to Sunday, includes all didactic/balloon sinuplasty/cadaver/live surgery.
$750 for Thursday PM, Sat/Sunday lectures only (no live surgery observation or lab dissection).

In the event of cancellation or postponement by the institution, we will refund registration fees, but are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies, or hotels.
