Advanced Techniques in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery 2008 is a comprehensive two or three day continuing medical education program (up to 14 AMA PRA Category 1 credits) in Rhinology/Sinus Surgery for practicing otolaryngologists with extensive ( > 3 years) exposure to Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. This course features didactic instruction, individual hands-on cadaver lab dissection and live surgery with expert national and international faculty. Offered over the President’s Day long weekend and Valentine’s Day, participants will immerse themselves in focused rhinology training followed by an evening celebration in chic downtown San Francisco and ample time to enjoy the Bay Area attractions.
Participants will enjoy a dynamic program with presentations on medical and surgical treatment of difficult chronic rhinosinusitis, surgical complications including cerebrospinal fluid leak, medico-legal issues in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, image guided surgery, orbital and optic nerve decompression/thyroid orbitopathy surgery, allergic fungal sinusitis, balloon sinuplasty, endoscopic approach to the sphenoid and sella, particular attention to primary and revision frontal sinus surgery, the role of biofilms in rhinology, coding and billing pearls, in-office CT scanners, practice development strategies including website and marketing tips, digital video recording/editing and presentation, and new instruments and technology applications for rhinology. Participants will also perform cadaver dissection with standard and powered instrumentation, attend a balloon sinuplasty mini-course, and observe live surgery.
Learning Objectives
Discuss new technology and instruments that are available to improve treatment of sinus disease.
Apply new dissection techniques to improve results in difficult endoscopic sinus surgery cases.
Describe management options in refractory sinus patients.
Course Special Feature
Intra-dissection CT scanning with XoranxCAT ENT
During and after the cadaver dissection course, attendees will be able to scan their specimen with the XoranxCAT ENT and study the anatomic changes they've created. All specimens will be scanned prior to dissection and image guidance systems will be available for use during dissection.
