What is chronic rhinitis?
Chronic rhinitis is a condition where a patient’s tissues lining their nose is persistently inflamed. This can lead to symptoms like a constant runny nose and often post-nasal drip, congestion, coughing, nasal itching, and sneezing. While these symptoms may be related to allergies, symptoms from chronic rhinitis can occur all year.
This challenging condition can negatively impact your life in countless ways, and in the past, trying to find an effective treatment was frustrating. Like many, you may manage your symptoms using medications and sprays. Unfortunately, these treatments only provide temporary relief. It’s only when the root cause of your rhinitis is addressed that you can expect to find real, lasting relief.
Symptoms of chronic rhinitis include:
- Itching and sneezing
- Constant runny nose
- Post-nasal drip
- Nasal congestion
What happens during the RhinAer Stylus procedure?
RhinAer® Treatment
Lasting relief is possible
If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you may be one of the millions of people living with chronic rhinitis. Until now, treatment often meant managing symptoms with medications and sprays. Now, your physician can offer you RhinAer to provide lasting relief. In a clinical study, patients treated with RhinAer experienced significant relief from chronic rhinitis symptoms. This procedure is non-invasive and done in-office, so patients typically return to normal activity on the same day.
What happens during the RhinAer Stylus procedure?
Your ENT specialist at California Sinus Centers performs the RhinAer procedure at the office under local anesthesia to minimize discomfort.
During the procedure, your doctor inserts the RhinAer Stylus device into your nose and uses radiofrequency energy to disrupt the function of the posterior nasal nerve (PNN), which is the nerve that triggers your rhinitis.
Our team will monitor you at the office for at least an hour after the procedure before sending you home with post-procedure activity and care guidelines.
Frequently Asked Questions About RhinAer®
The RhinAer® procedure utilizes low-level radiofrequency energy on the surface of the lining overlying the nerves that contribute to a runny nose. Your surgery uses an endoscope (a small camera) to locate the precise area of the nerve and applies the device to this mucosa. The procedure can be performed in the office using topical anesthetic to limit discomfort.
The procedure can be performed awake in the office using topical anesthesia to limit any pain. You may have some discomfort, but moisturization to the area is helpful to promote surgical healing. Your doctor will go over expectations for the procedure and give you postoperative instructions. Clinical trials have shown improvement in chronic rhinitis symptoms.
